motivationflow® | Employee Motivation Assessment
motivationflow® is an online employee motivation assessment that measures seven workplace motivation drivers and how they may shift day to day and under pressure. It helps individuals, managers and organisations understand what energises performance, where needs differ and how to create more supportive conditions for development and engagement.
Understand What Energises People at Work
Motivation is personal. The same opportunity, reward or form of recognition can energise one person, leave another indifferent and make someone else uncomfortable. A one-size-fits-all approach can therefore miss what people actually value at work.
As a motivational drivers assessment, motivationflow® provides a structured profile across seven distinct drivers. It helps show which conditions and experiences a person is more likely to find motivating, how those drivers are expressed through workplace behaviour and where their pattern may change when pressure increases.
The assessment is designed to support reflection, management and development conversations. It does not tell a manager exactly what to do, and it does not assume that every employee should be motivated in the same way.
Seven Workplace Motivation Drivers
motivationflow® measures seven distinct drivers that influence what people are likely to value and find motivating at work. Each driver may be expressed differently day to day and under pressure.
Autonomy
Choice, control and influenceAutonomy
Autonomy reflects the extent to which choice, control and the ability to influence work are motivating. Used proportionately, it can support initiative, self-sufficiency and ownership while still leaving space for consultation and shared decisions.
Growth
Learning, challenge and developmentGrowth
Growth reflects the value someone places on learning, challenge and opportunities to develop. It may show through seeking new experiences, stretching capability and comparing performance with strong examples.
Purpose
Meaningful contribution and impactPurpose
Purpose reflects the motivation a person gains from meaningful work, contribution and making a difference. It can focus effort on outcomes that matter and help connect day-to-day activity with a wider goal.
Recognition
Acknowledgement, praise and achievementRecognition
Recognition reflects how strongly acknowledgement, praise and achievement influence motivation. It can also shape how readily a person notices and recognises the contribution of others.
Reward
Tangible outcomes and achievementReward
Reward reflects the motivational value of tangible outcomes, financial reward, competition and achievement. Used proportionately, it can sharpen focus and effort without allowing the incentive to become the only reason the work matters.
Collaboration
Belonging and shared activityCollaboration
Collaboration reflects the motivation a person gains from working with others, belonging and participating in shared activity. It may show through seeking connection, group contribution and opportunities to build relationships.
Well-Being
Balance, recovery and sustainable energyWell-Being
Well-Being reflects the motivational importance of balance, recovery and having a range of interests, together with concern for the wellbeing of colleagues. It can support sustainable contribution and deliberate time to re-energise.

How motivationflow® Works
motivationflow® is an online workplace assessment that explores seven motivational drivers across day to day and under pressure behaviour. It typically takes approximately 11 minutes to complete.
Four steps
1. Complete the assessment
The individual completes the online questionnaire by considering their workplace motivation day to day and under pressure. It takes approximately 12 minutes.
2. Receive the report
Responses are processed into a structured motivationflow® report covering all seven drivers, both situational states and the four development zones.
3. Explore the insight
The individual reviews the results independently or with a trained interpreter, coach, manager or development professional, depending on the service selected and the purpose of the assessment.
4. Apply the learning
The insight is translated into practical conversations, development priorities, management actions or team strategies that can be tested and adjusted in context.
See What Changes Under Pressure
People do not always respond to the same motivational conditions in the same way. A driver that matters during ordinary work may become more important, less available or expressed differently when urgency, uncertainty, workload or consequences increase.
Two situational states
Day to day
Shows how the individual typically responds to and expresses each motivation driver during ordinary working conditions.
Under pressure
Shows how the same drivers may shift when the person experiences greater challenge, strain, urgency or uncertainty.
The comparison can reveal which drivers remain steady, where motivation becomes more dependent on a particular condition and where a person may need different support or greater self-awareness. Neither state is automatically better; the value lies in understanding the difference.
The strongest driver is not always the best answer
motivationflow® does not assume that the highest possible score is the ideal result. A driver can be underused, provide a useful foundation, operate proportionately or become overused. What helps in one role or situation may create unintended consequences in another.
Underusing
The driver may not be available, valued or expressed strongly enough to support the demands of the situation.
Solid Base
The driver is present and provides a useful foundation, although greater awareness or more consistent use may improve effectiveness.
Flow Zone
The driver is generally being used proportionately and adaptively, supporting motivation without dominating the person’s choices or behaviour.
Overusing
The driver may be relied upon too strongly, too frequently or too rigidly. A useful source of motivation can become limiting when it crowds out other needs, perspectives or responsibilities.
The aim is not to maximise every driver. It is to understand what motivates a person and
use that insight proportionately to the role, goals and situation.

What the motivationflow® Report Shows
The motivationflow® report translates questionnaire responses into practical insight for the individual and for those supporting their development or management.
Results across all seven workplace motivation drivers.
• Separate day to day and under pressure profiles.
• A comparison showing notable shifts between the two situational states.
• Interpretation through the Underusing, Solid Base, Flow Zone and Overusing framework.
• Insight into potential strengths, motivational needs, pressure patterns and development priorities.
• A foundation for management, coaching, team and professional development conversations.
Results are most useful when considered alongside the person’s role, goals, working environment and current experience. The report should guide conversation and experimentation, not become a fixed label or a promise that one incentive will always work.
Where motivationflow® Can Be Used
Four Uses:
Leadership and Management
Managers can use motivationflow® to understand why the same message, opportunity or reward may land differently across a team. It can support more adaptive conversations, delegation, recognition and development planning without replacing sound management judgement.
Employee Development
As an employee motivation assessment, motivationflow® gives individuals a structured way to understand what energises them, communicate their needs more clearly and build strategies that do not depend on a single source of motivation.
Team Development
With appropriate facilitation, motivationflow® can help teams understand differences in what people value and how they prefer to contribute. Individual profiles should remain confidential unless participants have clearly agreed otherwise.
Recruitment and Selection
motivationflow® may add insight to conversations about role conditions, expectations and what a candidate is likely to value. It should not be used as a standalone hiring decision or as a test that someone passes or fails.
motivationflow® can also support coaching, career discussions, stay conversations and role redesign. Wider organisational engagement or retention decisions should draw on broader workforce evidence, including engagementflow® where appropriate.
motivationflow® Is Not an Employee Engagement Survey
motivationflow® is an individual workplace motivation assessment. It explores the drivers a person values and how those patterns may shift. It does not measure whether employees are currently engaged, connected to the organisation or intending to stay.
A person may value Growth, Recognition or Autonomy even when their current workplace does not provide enough of it. The profile helps identify the motivational lens; it does not by itself show whether the organisation is creating the right conditions.
Use engagementflow® when the question concerns organisational engagement, connection, future intent, workplace drivers or pulse measurement. The two products can complement each other, but they answer different questions.
Motivation Patterns Can Be Developed
flowprofiler® treats the skills, intelligences and abilities it measures as capabilities a willing person can develop. motivationflow® results describe current patterns of motivation and behaviour, not a permanent limit on what someone can value or how they can respond.
People can strengthen drivers they currently underuse, reduce over-reliance on a single source of motivation, communicate their needs more constructively and practise responses that are better matched to the situation.

❝Such a great tool – replaces 3 other assessments I’ve been using!

❝I really enjoyed flowprofiler®. I think it is brilliant! flowprofiler® is a journey not just a one-off training session.❞

❝The course was great. Very easy to follow and Beck is terrific.❞

❝Love the flowprofiler diagnostic instrument. It has become an important tool in my coaching and development work. The flowprofiler interpreter training is excellent and their support team is highly responsive and very supportive.❞

❝While I have never been an ardent fan of any assessment, I have unconsciously become one as I have watched the awareness and growth I have experienced as well with every individual , leader and team who I have had the privilege to work with. A straight forward tool that gives depth and meaning for anyone who wants to live an optimal life❞

❝Having participated in a number of similar programs, I found flowprofiler® to be one of the best, if not the best, I have done thus far. The questions posed to create your profile are not dissimilar to other programs but responding from the perspective of two different mindsets is what differentiates flowprofiler®. This allows for interesting and insightful discussions when reviewing the results and your profile. Personally, I found my own results very close to how I perceive myself and to how others perceive me, which makes the suggestions on how to ‘bend and flex’ to interact with others that much more useful. A great system, highly recommended!❞

❝We increased our retention of candidates in the first 6 weeks from 50% to 80% using this system.❞

❝flowprofiler® can really help people not only in their work life but outside of work too. I really believe that this is a great thing!❞
❝I have been studying all the flowprofiler® documents, notes, tests, all day today.
And the more I do, the more in love I am falling with this tool.❞

❝My experience of flowprofiler® has been overwhelmingly positive. My report helped me to understand much more about myself, highlighted specific dimensions I could work on in my own development while supporting others with theirs. I would highly recommend flowprofiler® for Personal, Team and Leadership Development.❞
❝Very well presented and explained. Good to be able to speak on the practical use of the reports for self and team orientated purposes.❞

❝The team session for resilienceflow® was very useful because the whole company was able to discuss change. The Zoom breakout rooms really allowed for in-depth dialogue and opened discussions that would not have normally been broached.❞
❝I took the flowprofiler® assessment back in 2019. It really helped me to understand some aspects of myself that I had always suspected, but hadn’t been able to come to terms with, or know how to do better. It gave me the language to understand, become more aware of my behaviour and regulate my responses to my triggers. It’s helped me to ask myself, ‘is this proportionate & appropriate’? I like to think that I’ve always had a decent level of emotional intelligence, but now I feel that because I understand it better, I’m able to use it more effectively. Both for my benefit and for everyone around me.❞

❝Personally, I thought flowprofiler® was great. It was me; I was reading about me on a page!❞

❝Taking the flowprofiler® assessments, I had the opportunity to become more aware of my strengths and was able to give myself the chance to work on elements of myself that I want to improve through the awareness created through the assessments. I find myself using skills that I have gained through flowprofiler® in my work and personal life.❞

❝The training was informative, well paced and covered the critical points succinctly. There was a lot of information that needed to be covered and the individual reports are also very lengthy, however it was pleasing to be able to review assessments (at a high level) and be able to properly interpret the results. Beck’s delivery of the material was engaging, the language appropriate for the audience and the general flow of the training and timing for breaks and testing was well judged. Iain’s contributions supported the training very well and again, language was well chosen for the audience.❞
❝flowprofiler® provides me deep insight, and it surely helps develop myself as a business person. Based on the results, I know my strengths and weaknesses so that I am able to think about myself from different perspectives during the project. I would say this assessment has full of opportunities and chances to enhance your work environment.❞

❝A very insightful tool. The results helped me understand how I react to certain work situations both day to day and under pressure. I found the development report particularly useful to build an action plan for activating certain behaviours of underuse and being mindful of spikes in other behaviours.❞

❝We are excited and thrilled to share this new tool to support people grow, learn and give their best in their lives, personally and professionally. We believe everyone should have the opportunity to evolve and be the best version of themselves. Better people will make this a better world.❞
❝I could analyse myself by using flowprofiler®︎. I’m so happy to take this assessment!❞

❝You need to face your “real self” when you feel you need to do something for change. For the first step, you need to grasp where you currently stand. The results of flowprofiler® revealed “me” and I could have a solid thought about what to do from tomorrow.❞
❝My flowprofiler® development report really helps me stay mindful of my behaviours. Through the training techniques and practice I am getting better at adapting, in the moment, to the demands of my role. Great tool!❞
❝Very well presented and explained. Good to be able to speak on the practical uses of the reports for self and team oriented purposes.❞

❝Great tool to be able to pinpoint the strengths and weaknesses of colleagues for recruitment and also once within the business to determine growth areas. Very accurate and insightful.❞

❝We increased our retention when onboarding candidates from 50% to 80% using flowprofiler®❞

❝It is an amazing tool to use.❞

❝We are excited with the promise that flowprofiler®️ brings; one that will allow our clients to shape their people and their organisation to be agile, adaptable and ready for the opportunities in the future.❞
